Whereas the Gender Equality Index measures the sexism rate in Europe at 71%, only 17% of Europeans under 15 engage in formal or non-formal training on gender issues.

Women are particularly endangered by this lack of education, as they are the primary victims of gender-based violence. Furthermore, the predominantly domestic context of such violence often prevents women from reporting these incidents. The European Commission's 2024 report, EU Gender-Based Violence Survey, underscores this:
“Because of these close ties between the victim and the perpetrator, it can be difficult for victims to disclose their experiences and seek assistance, including to report incidents to the police. For these reasons, some official statistics, including police-recorded crime and generic crime victimisation surveys, capture the experiences of women to a limited extent.”
Education, therefore, is fundamental to breaking this cycle, freeing women from stigma, and equipping them to advocate for themselves and others.
This is the foundation of the FemPower project, led by a transnational group of associations (AIFED, Femedubeart, Socialinis Hubas, and System in Bewegung e.V.). The project aims to empower and support women across Europe through a series of initiatives.
The implementation of FemPower will occur in three stages:
Current Phase: Focus groups are being conducted with women across Europe to gather insights and feedback for developing relevant content.
Next Phase: Based on this benchmarking, a course manual titled Female Empowerment will be created. This manual will include feminist education and body-oriented methods, starting with raising awareness about inequalities and power structures before presenting actionable solutions to promote equality.
Final Phase: The manual will be freely accessible online and can serve as ready-to-use educational material for other projects. This stage will also focus on increasing the number of women in professional and leadership roles, addressing topics such as self-presentation, leadership skills, and work-life balance.
While the project is designed to empower women, the manual is available to everyone. Perhaps men, too, should engage in gender-based training. No excuses—the tool is online!
