First Transnational Meeting 7–9 February 2025
From the 7th to the 9th of February, the BOMA project partners gathered for their first transnational meeting, a valuable opportunity to work collaboratively and reflect deeply on the role of Artificial Intelligence in today's world.
Throughout the sessions, participants reached several key conclusions. There was a shared understanding that AI should be regarded as a support tool rather than a substitute for human judgement — a resource that enhances our work, but never replaces the critical thinking and expertise of the people behind it.
One of the most highlighted benefits of AI is its ability to eliminate the "blank page" effect, helping professionals overcome the initial barrier of starting a task and streamlining their workflow. This is particularly relevant for experts, who can leverage AI to work more efficiently. At the same time, participants were clear that AI is far from infallible: its outputs must always be verified, cross-checked, and critically evaluated.
A recurring metaphor during the meeting described AI as "a brilliant intern" — capable, fast, and full of potential, but still in need of guidance and supervision. In line with this, it was strongly recommended that AI not be used as a direct learning tool without proper critical guidance, as doing so may hinder the development of genuine understanding and independent thinking.
The group also emphasised the importance of addressing the ethical dimensions of AI use, including data protection, privacy, and the environmental sustainability of AI systems. These considerations must be integrated into any responsible approach to AI adoption.
Finally, participants underscored that behind every use of AI — especially in sensitive or high-stakes contexts — there must be a real, qualified, and accountable person. Technology alone is not enough; human expertise, responsibility, and judgement remain essential.
