LUCA POLESI

Luca Polesi was born in a small inland village on the Island of Elba, San Piero. The island is a place that almost everyone knows for its beaches and sea; Luca speaks instead of an island made of stone (granite) and metal (iron). In his shack, these are the materials that come together to create marvellous works, the result of a spell that borns from the ability to see something where hardly anyone can see nobody can see.

Luca is now well known on the island, because his art, so particular and scatteredon the territory also stems from a paricular intention, to utilise recycled material, starting from what others throw away, from what no longer has a place in this world. So it is to Luca that we give the crockery that we don't like any more, the chandelier we want to change, the garden tool that doesn't or the bicycle that is too rusty. And Luca welcomes you into his 'magic shack', waiting for the moment whenthat piece or that object will speak to him to tell him (sometimes shouting!!!) that they want to become something else! His art, one could also interpret it as the will not to impact on our territory with new materials, it is the desire to give life back to what would no longer would no longer have it.

In 2021 Luca made on behalf of the Lions Club a Eating Whale that was was placed on the beach of Lacona on the island of Elba,a beach that symbolises for our territory of the defence environmental protection. The message of the work is clear andunequivocal. All that we that we produce in plastic and that ends up in the sea inevitably ends up in the bellies of all the all the living beings that inhabit it.
